GPS

We have 10 GPS devices aboard,  so it will be really embarrassing if we get lost.

Can you guess what they all are? I'll add a list later

Tuesday 24th May - Swedish south coast.

Not a coast of of great interest on the whole, but Smgyhamn (reputed to be smelly) and the southernmost tip of Sweden was unexpectedly interesting and pretty, albeit with a faint whiff of rotting sea weed.  Then a sail and motor to Ystad, a much bigger place and more expensive too.
Now the wind was NE and in our faces as was the water flow but we had a good beat to Simrisham

Swan and 3 cygnets in the marina

Plenty of space but a lot of walking

Kristianopel - Saturday 28th

We had a challenging cold, upwind and against water sail here.  It started with tricky navigation through the rocks, often motoring in little wind, so emerging into strong wind and a lumpy sea was a shock. The short steep Baltic waves caused total disarray in the fore-cabin.  So we were glad to reach Kristianople where we found an empty harbour which we later discovered is often full as this is a a very popular beauty spot.  The peninsula it's on was once a fortified Danish border fort. There were many swifts screaming and swooping over the boat in the wind.

All alone in the harbour.  A rare event apparently

It was windy!

Karlskrona - Thursday and Friday 26th and 27 th May

Welcomed by three British boats so had a sociable couple of evenings and a lot of wine.  Visited the naval museum and went round a U boat from 1970's.  There was another very old U-boat there too.

One of the forts guarding this naval harbour.

Uboats still needed traditional navigation tools as well as the electronics.

Wednesday 25th May - Hanö

Top island from last year was even better with few holiday makers but lots of nightingales singing.  Found English cemetery dating from Napoleonic wars when island was a British naval base.

Phun was adopted by a pair of swallows.

The white ferry has called.

Saturday 21st May - Denmark

Good shake down with a gentle sail to Gedser, southern most point of Denmark.  Sailing Phun again at last with new radio, plotter, AIS and nav light all working feels good.
Followed by another gentle sail often in T-shirt and shorts, to Hesnaes. Very pretty village noted for houses with thatched walls as well as roofs.

The first and last hot downwind sail (and its now into June)

On the wall

A completely thatched house, walls and roof.

20 May 2016 - Burgstaaken to Gedser

At last everything is ready (sort of). We motored out, sailed about for a bit trying to remember what all the ropes were for. Put on a reef and then took it out again.  Then headed over to Gedser which is on the southernmost tip of Denmark.

The new plotter is working well.

To 19 May 2016 - Fitting out

Let's not go into detail just now.  The problem with having the boat away from home is that you have to do the jobs that are normally spread over a whole winter in just a few days.  Also have to take all the right tools and materials.

I'll add the actual jobs later
